Hello everyone – just wanted to let you know about an event next week in Winnipeg that I feel is extremely important and that I am quite excited about – consider this an invitation.

My friend Tim Huff is a street worker in Toronto who has for years sought out the city’s most vulnerable, at-risk homeless teenagers, establishing relationships of trust and care, offering listening friendship, advocacy, simple necessities and an incarnational experience of the love of Christ. I have never met anyone who does this work as tenaciously and tenderly as Tim. His is a remarkable story.

Tim is also a tremendous writer who for years has been documenting the beauty and dignity of some of Canada’s most deeply wounded youth in short stories that have been inspiring me and others to deeper compassion and understanding. Last spring Castle Quay Books compiled thirty of these remarkable stories into a deeply moving book called Bent Hope. It is a book I have read many times now and I am proud that Signpost Music, in partnership with Castle Quay Books and Siloam Mission is bringing Tim to Winnipeg to talk about his work, read from his book and give us new eyes to see our city and our city’s homeless.

The event is at 7:30 next Wednesday, October 22nd at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. I’ll be there to sing, several others from across the country (including aboriginal singer/songwriter Cheryl Bear) will be reading excerpts from the book, and Tim Huff will share his stories and insights.

We’ve already put on this event to a large, enthusiastic audience in downtown Toronto and will continue on to a Calgary event the following day.

Please come. This is not a fundraiser and there is no ticket price for the evening. However, because seating is limited you must RSVP to register your intention to come.
It will be a relaxed and wonderful evening including refreshments and reception to follow.
