Jon Buller / The Hymn Project |
It is Well with My Soul
FAYE’S NOTES:Jon Buller’s Hymn Project will always be a favourite of mine, and has proven to be a great seller. These traditional hymns with the Buller, Balzer and Aichele harmonies are worshipful and beautiful to listen to. It is Well with My Soul made me weep, as it had been a song at my Dad’s funeral. |

Mike Janzen / Mombacho |
Swankometer
FAYE’S NOTES:When Dave first played Mike’s Mombacho in the Signpost office, it had such a groovy beat I just had to leave my desk and computer to boogie! This album is now the proud winner of Jazz Album of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards. “Mombacho” was the song I boogied to, but I’ve included Swankometer for you to hear… |

Steve Bell/ Devotion |

Everything We Need
FAYE’S NOTES:Some people don’t know it, but this disc is enhanced so that worship leaders can use the lead sheets and printable lyrics! The worship leader at my own church is using some of the great songs from this album with our congregation. It’s fun participating on a Sunday morning with music on my boss’ album! |

Adrian Plass / Preaching to the Converted |
Holy Fire
FAYE’S NOTES:Glen Soderholm recently finished a cross-Canada tour with Adrian Plass. My husband and I attended the one here in Winnipeg, and had a good giggle listening to Adrian’s monologue. One of his CDs is available here at Signpost, so I’ve added a clip of the “Holy Fire” skit. |

Rei Hotoda / Apparitions |
Glimpses - Mov't 3 Chant
FAYE’S NOTES:You know, first time listening to Rei Hotoda’s debut piano album of avant-garde Asian music had me skeptical, but after seeing her perform at the album launch, gave me a new appreciation for something very different! There are more ways to play a piano than just using the keys and pedals, as you can hear in Glimpses – Mov’t 3 Chant. It was fascinating! |

Steve Bell / Simple Songs |
Unto the Least of These
FAYE’S NOTES:I love all of the music on this album, but I will feature Unto the Least of These (the song that Mary-Kathyn wrote) just because I can! The harmony with his daughter Sarah – how can I say it – sorry, no words… |
Steve Bell / Deep Calls to Deep |
Why do I Hunger for Beauty
FAYE’S NOTES:It is hard to pick a favourite on this classic album, so I will choose Why Do I Hunger for Beauty. At a concert recently, Steve told us the story of sitting on a mountaintop in Tibet above a blanket of clouds, where he was moved to sing this song just like Maria from the Sound of Music! |
Gayle Salmond / Ordinary Places |
Sophia
FAYE’S NOTES:Steve often jokes that Gayle Salmond “wastes” her songwriting talent by teaching children for a living instead! Her song The Lorica is on Steve’s album Devotion, and “Sophia” is a gorgeous hymn to Wisdom, personified by Christian tradition as the woman Sophia. |
Fergus Marsh / Spirit Moves |
Nuthin
FAYE’S NOTES:Fergus Marsh has contributed his talents as a bass and chapman stick player to several of Steve’s albums, in addition to Mary-Kathryn’s newest album Dreams and Visions. His unique stylings are featured on this album of his own – it’s not just instrumental! Listen to Nuthin (can separate me from the love of Jesus)… |
Mary-Kathryn / One Spirit |
Unto the Least of These (duet with Steve Bell)
FAYE’S NOTES:Some of you may know that Mary-Kathryn wrote Unto the Least of These, one of my absolute favourites on the Simple Songs album. This album features her original version of her song, in her own beautiful, ethereal voice. Steve sings with her! It was after recording with Mary-Kathryn that Steve tried the song with his daughter Sarah. |
