What is Online Social Networking?
We refer to “social networking,” as a series of websites whose primary function is to act like an online community of internet users. Its a great concept; a global community of people that share a common interest. In our case this is a passion for great music, social justice, and a deep faith. We are moving toward this “cyber-world” with intentionality, while simultaneously affirming the irreplaceable value of tangible, face-to-face relationships.
The direction of the music industry has prompted us to take heed and migrate toward online distribution and information sharing. Some are predicting that Cd’s may become as rare as the VHS tape in the near future, and although lots of music is being purchased and enjoyed, less and less of those transactions involve the exchange of a material disc. We want to be pro-active rather than reactive, and facilitating Online Social Networking is part of that choice.
There are many community websites in use: Facebook, Myspace, YouTube, CBCRadio3, and Last.fm are the five main sites Signpost Music has chosen to dedicate our energy and time to. This is not exhaustive and we will continue to expand our reach across the internet. We do hope that this will help us maintain contact with our current fans, and also that our fans can share these links with new listeners and music appreciators.
If you are not a member on any of these websites, we would encourage you to sign-up and support our efforts to broaden the listening base for Steve Bell, and all of our distributed artists. On any of these sites you can view videos, listen to previously released and newly available material, view tour schedules, read artists journal entries, and contact the artists and us (Signpost Music) for comment. Please click on the links below and see what’s out there and how you could get involved.
