    Hello all at Signpost Music,

I am in a small group bible study on tuesday evenings. One person is responsible for a “song share” to begin our time together. This week I’d like to share “Dark Night of the Soul” but I’ll need to preface. I remember it being prefaced on a sample CD for a concert a few years ago.
Could someone send me a short email how Steve was inspired to write this song.
    Much appreciated.
    Carol

This is too late, but… the sampler CD would have been from one that features the Romantics & Mystics CD, — it’s on a couple of different samplers actually.

If you have the DVD or video of “Steve Bell at Home in Concert & With Friends”, I think it’s on there as well. (I know the song is there with some video of the concentration camps in Germany). Steve should answer this but… after visiting a concentration camp in Auschwitz (spelling?) or Birkenau (?) the song was written after a time of being back home (composed on piano BTW) and the thought that struck him of the horror of what mankind is capable of doing to other humans. The “moon” connection is the same moon that was shining down on his Winnipeg home while peacefully at rest was the same moon that had risen just a few hours earlier over the haunting reminders of the concentration camps. It’s a song of grief and pain. But yet like in most of Steve’s songs, a message of hope given in a promise to God’s people. (I hope I represented this right.)
