We have two new releases from Jacob Moon this year. The Loop is a live concert performance album like only Jacob can pull off. Jacob is an absolute master of his craft and this recording documents that fact rather nicely. The song selection is stunning – a couragous mix of Jacob originals and some rather unlikely covers of songs by the likes of Rush, Peter Gabriel, Josh Redman and Kurt Elling. Somehow, Jacob employs all his interpretive skills, guitar prowess and sonorous vocals to bring in an album that is internally integrated, moving and often exhilarating.

Jacob teams up with veteran west-coast producer Roy Salmond to deliver a fresh recording of standard and not-yet-standard Christmas fare.  When covering other’s material, Jacob always brings something new and delightful to the table without alienating traditional offerings.  And when offering something new, the new has the ring of tried and true.  A particular highlight is the Jacob Moon/Glen Soderholm original that lends the album it’s name - This Christmas.

When audiences first hear Jacob Moon in concert, often their first question is “Why isn’t this guy famous??”. To see and hear this Hamilton-based singer-songwriter in action is to be filled with wonder, and more questions, like “how does he make the guitar sound like an entire orchestra?” and “where do I get my hands on these songs?”.

To answer the question of what Moon has been up to for the past few years, he’s been very busy recording CDs for the Signpost label (Steve Bell’s imprint), and touring all over Canada and into the United States. (more…)
