Everybody loves Mike! Seriously. Several of you will know Mike as the astonishing and delight-full piano player who has been accompanying me on tour for the last several years. Mike’s gifts as an invaluable accompanist/ sideman/arranger are well celebrated. Sometimes a photo seems to capture the essence of a person. In like manner, an outstanding recording can accomplish the same. This CD firmly establishes that part of the “essence of Mike” is the tremendous jazz writer, stylist and band leader he is. Deeply embedded in this excellent collection of (mostly) original songs are Mike’s reverence, humor, compassion and joy. His is a rare and infectious gift.
