Often, contemporary recordings of the hymns make the baffling error of attempting to improve on what has already proved itself excellent. Not so with this project. Veteran musician Jon Buller has teamed up with singer/guitarists Nolan Balzar, Kevin Aichle and producer Olaf Pytlick to gift us with fresh, simple acoustic, harmonically strong, excellently performed and lovingly offered renditions of songs that weren’t broke in the first place. Listening to this recording one get the definite impression that this is not born of mere nostalgia or sentiment, but rather a profound gratitude for a faith handed down and received with a determination to pass along what has so capably nurtured and sustained.

I saw you perform (Fri. Oct 3, 2008) on It’s a New Day broadcast and I just love your singing and harmony. I see you are on again October 10th so I will be watching. I am very impressed with your CD. My mother lives in Edmonton and wants to go to see your performance there on Nov 28th at Winspear (with my sister). My mother was an Aeichele (from Kamloops) and has family living in Vernon. Our family just had a wonderful reunion in Sicamouse in August. We were raised and blessed to have christian parents/grandparents. I see Jon Buller has located there so I hope one day I can catch his services at the Alliance Church. I think he will find it a wonderful place to live. They are blessed to have him.

“The Hymn Project” is an amazing work of art - filled with soothing harmonies and instrumentation. As you listen you will be brought under the shadow of the cross. I experience pain 24/7 but time spent listening to this CD allows me to move beyond the pain and into a place of peace, rest and communion with God. Don’t hestitate for a minute to buy this incredible compilation of ageless hymns.
