MIKE JANZEN
Mike Janzen is a Manitoba-raised, Toronto based jazz pianist/composer/singer whose music is an engaging blend of Broadway standards, explorative versions of popular songs (Mrs. Robinson, God put a smile/Coldplay), and well-crafted originals. Mike’s primary group, “The Mike Janzen Trio”, has toured across Canada and has been featured at the Toronto International Jazz Festival, the Wreckhouse International Festival and Winnipeg International Jazz Festival (duo). The trio’s members include Mike Janzen (piano/vocals), the luminous George Koller (bass) and the phenomenal Larnell Lewis (drums). The Mike Janzen Trio is a regular national fixture on both CBC (Tonic) and Jazz 91.1 and his song, “There’s no escaping spring” recently won best jazz/blues song of the year at the GMA awards in Calgary, AB. The trio’s albums have sold over 15 000 units and at their latest sold out concert at the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto, Dennis Patterson (CBC engineer) remarked, “that’s one of the best things I’ve ever heard in here!”
