Description
Several of Steve’s most remarkable musical experiences have resulted from someone else’s initiative. This was the case for his 14th carreer album, Symphony Sessions.
In the spring of 2006 the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra called Steve and suggested he might consider doing a concert with them. It took awhile for Steve to realize the offer was serious, but once convinced, he and his manager Dave Zeglinski enlisted the help of Mike Janzen, and they got to work
Mike Janzen brilliantly arranged thirteen of Steve’s most celebrated songs. Manager Dave Zeglinski set out to orchestrate the concert’s promotion and production. Then, on Nov 17 of that same year, Steve, his band, and the WSO took to the stage in front of a sold out audience at the Manitoba Centenial Concert Hall.
The enthusiastic response to the concert encouraged Steve and his manager to consider recording the material, and in late spring 2007, they created a studio out of a Winnipeg down-town Church, and recorded the Symphony Sessions with the WSO.
Since then they have gone on to perform more than two dozen concerts with Symphonies across Canada and into the US. One such concert was filmed in Edmonton’s magnificent Winspear Theatre with the ESO resulting in Steve’s third Concert DVD. More recently, in late 2010, Steve performed to a rapt capacity crowd with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra at Toronto’s Massey Hall.
More symphony concerts are being planned for Fall 2013
